Syona Varty (they/them) is an actor, director, & producer. They were born in the USA to Indian parents & currently live in New York City.
Syona’s directing credits include I’m Still Here (The Tank), Back When We Felt Clean (self-produced), judy, or i think sophomore year is trying to eat me (Women’s March Fest), Waiting (Leave The Lights On), Monologue Competition (Imaginarium Theatre Co.), Sun’s Out Selves Out Monologues (ITC).
Their acting credits include Juniper in the animated musical Astrom Club, Gwen in Marissa Alaniz’s Asphodels, Rupa in Rena Patel’s Noise of the Storm, Nisha in Rena Patel’s Pyar Aur Coffee, Nat & Loop in Scary Animals.
Syona spent their childhood in Belgium and earned their BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts where they studied at Playwrights Horizons Theatre School and The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.
In 2020, Syona co-founded Imaginarium Theatre Co., a non-profit dedicated to inclusion, sustainability, and social justice. Syona is honoured to serve as the company’s Artistic Director and hopes that Imaginarium will help the world of theatre become more inclusive and symbiotic.
